Substitute Teacher

Our school is designed to cater to the needs of twice-exceptional (2e) students, recognizing their exceptional talents alongside their learning differences. With small class sizes and a focus on fostering positive relationships, we create an environment where students can flourish academically, socially, and emotionally in grades 4-12.

We are a small team of passionate people committed to creating affirming, supportive, enriching, and positively challenging learning environments for 2e students and their families. We want to attract teachers and staff who are trained to teach and support our bright children who have challenges as well as gifts from their neurodiversity. The new school is assuming operations of the current Bridges Academy Seattle campus in the Central District with many of the same students, faculty and staff. The new school can take advantage of the great momentum that was built in the first two years. 

We want teachers and staff who understand asynchronous learning and can differentiate in the classroom to bring out the best in our students. We will provide a strength-based learning atmosphere that allows students to spend more time in and out of school on their passions, and less time on busywork and cumbersome homework. We plan to keep teacher:student ratios lower than typical private and public schools. We want to provide a top notch academic environment, as well as a place to learn how to be a productive, independent, civic-minded adult. Our school provides families with a community who understands what it is like to raise a twice-exceptional child.  

The Substitute teacher position is an on-call at-will position. A flexible schedule is preferred, as we often need substitutes to fill in on short notice. Upon hire, we will perform a background check. • Experience working with neurodivergent learners, particularly twice-exceptional students.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to be flexible.
• Commitment to equity, inclusion, and social justice in education.
• Ability to pass a criminal background check.
• Work well both independently and with a team.

• Teaching experience
• Bachelor’s Degree
• Deep knowledge of the developmental needs of 4th-12th grade learners.
